Yokohama

Photo: Tripadvisor

As Japan’s second largest city by population -and its first to open ports to foreign trade-Yokohama has lead the way to modern culture. The area has undergone an extraordinary amount of development, particularly in the waterfront district of Minato Mirai 21, which is famous for its skyline and scenic harbour views.

Yokohama’s connection to the port & waterfront doesn’t stop at the harbour…

Its influence on the city’s identity and culture has even found its way into the world of Pokémon, with the local Pokémon Center placing strong focus on water-type Pokémon and maritime-themed merchandise – including an exclusive Pikachu in a sailor’s outfit!

Need more reasons to visit?

As one of the top destinations for Pokémon fans, Yokohama also hosts an annual Pikachu Outbreak event where over 1500 Pikachu invade the Minato Mirai 21, with parades, dance performances and shows. Be sure to time your trip right as this event takes place during summer.

Yes, you will miss cherry blossom season – but look on the bright side, at least it’ll be the perfect time to climb Mount Fuji…

Nearest Stations:

Yokohama Station – roughly a 5 minute walk to the Pokémon Center. Simply follow the signs via the Porta underground shopping mall.

So, where are we heading?

We’ve listed a few retailers below that carry Pokémon products within the area. Follow the links provided for more information!

1. Pokémon Center Yokohama

About

Located on the 8th floor of the Yokohama Sky Building, the store is inspired by Yokohama’s connection to the sea, with it’s port-themed interior and large Kyogre display at the entrance – if your favourite colour is blue you will love it here!

This official Pokémon store offers a wide selection of merchandise, including plushies, stationery, and various collectibles. Trading cards are sold new and sealed only. The store does not sell single or graded cards, nor does it offer in-store or online appraisals. We recommend visiting in person to check the availability of sealed TCG products.

As a result of overcrowding, you’ll need a reservation ticket to enter the store. This will give you a time slot which could be as soon as 5 minutes or as long as 4 hours…

Head on over to our Pokémon Center section for more information on location, exclusive merch and nearby attractions!

Additional info

Atmosphere – The need for a reservation ticket can feel a bit off-putting, but the chance to pick up some exclusive marine-themed merch can make the wait worthwhile (if it is in stock that is!).

2. BOOKOFF Super Bazaar

Photo: Google Reviews

About

This BOOKOFF is a 15 minute walk from its nearest station, Shin-tsunashima Station, and roughly 20 minutes by train from Yokohama Station.

Yes, it’s a little out of the way, but…

BOOKOFF Super Bazaar locations tend to stand out from other branches due to their huge collections and immense variety. Specialising in secondhand & discounted goods, the store also offers single Pokémon cards—both raw and graded (note the TCG section is located on the first floor).

Like the store mentioned in the Tokyo Bay section of this website, it is not your typical tourist spot – meaning you can hunt for great deals at your own pace and away from the crowds.

Top tip: Visit on a day with good weather.

Additional info

Atmosphere – Due to its location, locals may have limited experience with other languages due to less exposure – a great opportunity for visitors to practice their Japanese!

It is worth noting that the TCG section isn’t as big when compared to other stores, but its still worth a visit if you have the time as you never know what you might find. Besides, the journey itself is an experience…

Magi specialises mainly in Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh!, and is well known for its selection of rare, high-end singles and graded cards. Here you will find a wide range of products, from modern to vintage, along with sealed booster packs and boxes – ‘mystery packs’ are also available for those who fancy a gamble.

Located on the 5th floor of the Daisan Building, the shop is just a 5 minute walk from Yokohama Station. This store in particular is known for its competitive pricing and strong appraisal offers.

About

Located on the 7th floor, and within the same building as Pokémon Center Yokohama, there’s really no reason not to stop by…

MINT is a well-established specialty retailer with over 15 stores nationwide and a massive online marketplace. While it focuses mainly on sports cards, the store also sells singles for other trading card games like Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering and One Piece, albeit a smaller variety.

Known for its selection of high-rarity cards & collectibles, this store is an ideal spot for collectors. What makes it even better is that you can check out their inventory online before visiting.

Additional info

Atmosphere – Staff are known to speak a bit of English, which can make the experience more welcoming for tourists.

Its location within a multi-storey shopping complex tends to attract more families and children compared to the typical multi-tenant buildings where many card shops are found.

5. Traca Park Yokohama Nishiguchi

About

Also known as TCG Park Yokohama West Exit Store, this shop is about a 5-10 minute walk from Yokohama Station and is located on the 3rd floor of the Ishikawa Building.

The store buys and sells a wide range of trading card games, focusing mainly on rare individual cards and the latest sealed products like booster packs and boxes. Luckily for us, this includes Pokémon!

Probably one of the few TCG stores that offers discounts & sale items, customers have gone as far to describe their visit similar to a ‘treasure hunt’ – make of that what you will.

Additional info

Atmosphere – The store is small and rarely overcrowded – perfect for those who prefer a comfortable and relaxed shopping experience.

It is often regarded as one of the best TCG shops in the area for its great customer service and friendly staff – one of many reasons why visitors recommend this store and keep coming back.
