Here are some of our favourite selection of things to do and see in Tokyo, in no particular order:
- Visit Sensō-ji Temple in Asakusa
- Cross the Shibuya Scramble
- Explore Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden
- Tokyo Skytree (and Solamachi Mall)
- Pokémon Centers & Pokémon TCG Shops (Multiple Locations)
- Tokyo Arcades (GiGO, TAITO Station, Round1)
1. Sensō-ji Temple in Asakusa

Tokyo’s oldest and most iconic temple. Stunning gates, lanterns, and buzzing traditional markets.
Our visit rating: 8/10
Reason: It is an incredible sight in person, on one of Tokyo’s oldest and most iconic temples. The markets leading up to the temple offer traditional snacks and souvenirs and it offers great photos, day or night. That said, it is often extremely crowded with a very touristy atmosphere.
2. Cross the Shibuya Scramble

The busiest crossing in the world – neon lights, energy, and an essential Tokyo moment.
Our visit rating: 9/10
Reason: Watching videos and looking at photos of it simply doesn’t do it justice. Being part of it in person is shocking, but in the best way. Not to mention there’s a shopping center and plenty of restaurants nearby. That said during our last visit in 2025, there were many roadworks and blocked off paths, making it hard to walk around nearby.
3. Explore Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden

A peaceful escape with Japanese, English, and French-style gardens.
Our visit rating: 7/10
Reason: An incredible beautiful garden with plenty to see and many perfect spots for photography. There is a small entry fee of 500 yen per person (roughly £2.50) and for those who prefer fact paced activities it may not be the best selection on this list. However, it was a personal highlight for us!
4. Tokyo Skytree & Solamachi Mall

Amazing views from Japan’s tallest tower, plus hundreds of shops, food spots and easy access via the underground metro.
Our visit rating: 9/10
Reason: Boasting the best panoramic views of Tokyo and a shopping mall with over 300 stores, Tokyo Skytree has something for everyone (not to mentioned Pokemon Center Skytree). It’s even within walking distance of the Sensō-ji Temple, so you can tick off two attraction in a few hours. That said, the observation can be pricey costing between 2100 yen and 3400 yen depending on ticket choice (roughly £10 – £17) per person.
5. Pokémon Centers & Pokémon Shops Around Tokyo

A must-do for fans – with 5 Pokemon Centers in Tokyo and the neighboring vicinity featuring exclusive merch, life-sized statues, and themed shopping experiences. Not to mention plenty of Pokemon sealed product and card singles and slabs inside various dedicated TCG shops.
Our visit rating: 10/10
Reason: No rating surprises here! For Pokemon lovers like us, these centers are as close as we can get to being immersed in the Pokemon world itself. Each center features exclusive merch, large statues, themed displays and great photo opportunities. They do get VERY overcrowded and exclusive merch CAN be difficult to find due to limited stock and fast sell out times. But don’t let that stop you. Browse each of our Pokemon Center location guides to find out more about their themes, opening times, exclusive merch and even route planning.
6. Tokyo Arcades

Morning, afternoon or evening, you wont find a more quintessential Japanese activity. Try rhythm games, crane machines, retro games, and multi-floor arcades across Akihabara, Shibuya, Shinjuku, and Ikebukuro.
Our visit rating: 10/10
Reasons: The arcades in Japan give even the Pokemon and anime related activities a run for their money. Arcades are fun for couples, groups and solo travelers and offer a wide choice of games with prizes guaranteed to please everyone. Prices vary between 100 yen and 500 yen per play. Our personal favourite was Taito station, which included many 100 yen claw machines with dragon ball z prizes which we loved! They can get crowded at peak times (mostly afternoons and evenings) and they are loud and some may experience sensory overload.
But that’s not all!
