Home to the world’s busiest pedestrian crossing and dubbed the heart and soul of Tokyo’s youth culture, Shibuya is a must-see when exploring the city for the first time or wanting to experience Tokyo at its most vibrant and energetic.

There are lots of things to do in Shibuya. Whether you plan to take in the panoramic views from the Shibuya Sky observation deck, sample the “viral” street food of Harajuku, or brave the chaos of the famous scramble crossing, why not squeeze in a little Pokémon along the way?

Popular with Pokémon Go players for its dense spawn rates, Shibuya also features a life-size Mewtwo statue inside the Pokémon Center Shibuya. Be sure to snap a pic while you’re there!

2. Lucky Toreca TCG Shop

Photo: Poketinerary

About

A small shop tucked away behind the busy streets of Shibuya, and one of the few stores actually accessible from street level… it is only a 7 minute walk from Shibuya Station.

The store specialises mostly in Pokémon and offers a good range of products (despite being small in size), including vintage, modern and sealed items. There is also a limited selection of One Piece and Yu-Gi-Oh! available.

As a general note, it’s worth being cautious when purchasing sealed booster packs from small retailers, as packs may be weighed and the heavier ones removed beforehand – these heavier packs are often more likely to contain ‘hits’ from the set.

Additional info

Atmosphere – Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Shibuya, the store can be a little tricky to find, but that also means it tends to stay relatively quiet. The staff are very friendly and can even speak some English.

About

No more than a 5 minute walk from Shibuya Station, this store specialises in Pokémon and One Piece card games.

Top tip: take the elevator on arrival, not the stairs!

There’s a wide range of vintage singles and bulk to dig through, along with reasonably priced sealed products. Tier one is especially popular for its lotteries, often providing a chance to win high-demand booster boxes.

The store also features a good selection of graded slabs, making it a great stop for collectors.

Additional info

Torecaru is a high-end trading card shop specialising in Pokémon and One Piece cards. The store focuses on high-end singles and PSA-certified graded products, with a wide selection of sealed booster packs and boxes.

Despite its high-end approach, prices are fair and competitive, and the store even holds a 5.0 rating on Google – make of that what you will.

5. Card Kingdom

About

Just a 2 minute walk from Shibuya Station, the store entrance can be easy to miss due to the lack of external signage – it also doesn’t help that the store is located on the 4th floor! It’s worth keeping your eyes peeled when visiting.

Card Kingdom specialises in a variety of trading card games, particularly Pokémon, and also has its own battle space for up to 32 seats – so make sure to bring all 31 of your friends!

The store offers a selection of single cards from vintage to modern, and its main focus is on sought-after high-rarity cards, including graded slabs. However, the stores inventory is limited.

Additional info

Atmosphere – The store itself is not very big, with more space dedicated for playing rather than for selling. The store is also one of the few TCG spots that stays open late, hosting gym battles well into the evening. Perfect for those who love to stay up late!
